The new Typhoon brushless motors are selling like hot cakes, and the reason - I am quite sure - is because they are very good value for money. On my last visit to High-End Technology Holland (HET-RC), I saw the new Typhoon 5. The two original HET-RC motors were the Typhoon 6 and Typhoon 15. Are you wondering what the numbers mean? The 6 (and 15) is the length in millimetres - front to back - of both the iron laminations around which the coils are wound, and the length of the magnets, so this is the size of the actual 'working' part of the motor. The entire motor is much longer than 6 mm: there is the case, the bearings and quite a lot of space inside. The new Typhoon 5 is only I mm shorter inside, but there is less space too, so this motor is visibly shorter and weighs 32 g. The 6 weighs 43 g and the 15 weighs 72 g; a Speed 400 weighs 73 g.
