Lords Hill Scale

Three old men sit in their folding chairs on top of a hill in deepest Wiltshire, watching the day's events unfold. Sadly, I have to report that I was one of them! What was engaging our interest were the antics of a whole host of scale models gathered together upon the occasion of the Lords Hill club's annual scale bash. The peerless Lords Hill site lies somewhere in the middle between Shaftsbury in Dorset and Warminster in Wiltshire, and the club hosts a couple of aerotow events as well as an electric weekend throughout the course of the season. In line with all the events held at this venue in 2005, one of the days was mostly washed out with vertical precipitation accelerated by gravity, or rain if you prefer. In this case it was the Saturday that was wellie-bound, so the events that are about to unfold took place the following day when by some mistake of cosmic proportions it forgot to rain at all! Instead we were treated to a brisk and eager wind that blew across the patch in such a way as to cause a mighty crosswind, a phenomenon always enjoyed by pilots of biplanes and high-winged aircraft alike.
