The old airfield at Castle Kennedy, just east of Stranraer in the south west of Scotland, was a wartime RAF base which had two hard runways. Now they are occasion- ally used by light aircraft but their surface is poor. The Scottish Aeromodellers Association, Dumfries and Galloway Council and the landowner, the Earl of Stair, together raised enough money to have a new 150 m long tarmac strip laid. That, coupled with the old airfield's wide-open spaces, gave sufficient space to operate the largest of models, including jets.
