Jets

I've mentioned before that the JMA have provisioned two Wren Powered baby Boomerangs for use as training aids by its members, and also to 'spread the word on jets' by providing air experience for those wanting to have a go. Well, it can only be said that this was a very popular and timely move, as the models have been kept extremely busy since they were baptized at Wroughton back in May. Chris Gregory roped me in to the inaugural club air experience session to be the 'master' pilot (a grand name but all it means is that I kept the button pressed on the master tranny whilst everybody showed me how to fly!) when he dragged me all the way up to the Deeside Model Club's jet meet, just the other side of Chester. The club fly off a very well prepared grass site that sits on top of a landfill site, which not only enjoys relative remoteness but it also has some very pleasant views too, making it a nice place to be. The jet meet itself was a success, thanks to the work put in by Dennis Williams and his hard working crew, and I managed a total of twenty 'buddy' flights with the JMA's Baby Boomerangs (well, Boomerang, actually - one went unserviceable with a servo failure after just one flight, but that's why you have two!). I think the most flights I've ever put in with my own model in one session was about ten, and I have to take my hat off to Dave Wilshere and Ali Machinchy for logging over thirty flights during one of the JMA's Rookie Days, because I was absolutely whacked after overseeing twenty flights - thir- ty would have seen me off!
