This quick and easy-to-build little RAF trainer design by Giles Fowler has a 36" wingspan and is powered by a SC 15 and suitable for 4-function R/C... The de Havilland Canada Chipmunk was the standard, post-war primary trainer for the three armed services. The DHC-1 Chipmunk or 'Chippy' was designed to succeed de Havilland's classic Tiger Moth biplane trainer. Flying for the first time in May 1946, the tandem-seat stressed-skin monoplane was the first indigenous design of de Havilland Aircraft. De Havilland built Chipmunks well into the late 1950s. Two were even evaluated by the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment at Boscombe Down, which culminated in them being used as the ab initio trainer for the RAF.
