On an auspicious day for veterans and families of the Battle of Britain, Chedworth RCFC held its annual Club Scale Meet. While HRH Prince Charles unveiled the new Battle of Britain Memorial in London, a slot in the flying schedule saw four Spitfires at Chedworth perform a tail chasing routine, including some impressive low passes. Led by Ashley Anderson their display brought a spontaneous round of applause. The competition was judged by all participating pilots, most votes wins. The model was judged minimally on appearance, the main emphasis being on 'best representation of flight of the full size machine'. This statement being from organiser Alan King. Very little wind made for an enjoyable day and as flying was off the peg, everyone managed several flights. Models came from both war eras, and civil and military machines were well represented. ARTF models were on show, but not in the majority. Len Gardiner flew his ARTF Spad powered by a Laser 360 V twin, very impressive and highly accurate model, and John Field who took some persuading to participate demonstrated the attractive Super Dimona powered glider.
