Mid autumn is when the annual Wagga Wagga World War II and Military Scale Competition takes place.rnThis year was different to previous years as The Wagga Model Aero Club chose to allow ARTFs to be used for the first time, albeit in a separate competition, which of course did not include any static judging. However, they did share the flight line and the flight judges with the major owner-built models. Did this detract from the 'true' scale Military Model Competition? From a modeller's point of view, I think not. In fact it was a source of encouragement and help to the younger pilots to pit their flying skills against those of the generally older and competition experienced 'I built it myself flyers. From a spectator's point of view, the ARTFs with a few execptions, were of the smaller model size and therefore not as readily seen or perceived to be as spectacular as the generally larger pilot built machines.
