In October's Soarer's slot we established some basic control surface settings that would give us a safe glide just a few miles per hour over the stall speed of your electric powered thermal soarer. Many experienced eSoaring pilots will tell you that the next step should be optimising the model's Centre of Gravity (C of G). However, before we cover that subject, (which we will do in some depth in a future article), it is a good idea, with an electric glider at least, to first set the model up to achieve an easy launch under power and a controlled landing approach. Admittedly, when we start to experiment with C of G changes, we will have to come back and make fine adjustments to all our flight modes, but meanwhile, not having to struggle with a difficult launch and an unpredictable landing approach, will make the whole trimming process much less stressful.
