Best In Scale

A new radio control modelling magazine was major publishing history within the hobby in 1984. True we had a new radio control aero modelling magazine a few months earlier but it had folded after about half a dozen issues. Many modellers expressed doubts about the viability of the new RC Model World magazine when it hit the bookstalls and model shops in January of that year. Having been brought up on a diet of the Aeromodeller, RCM&E and Radio Modeller that were all under the Model and Allied Publications banner it was interesting to see a new magazine from a different publisher. I was impressed to see a couple of very interesting scale designs from Dave Womersley and David Vaughan. Dave Womersley had been flying a quarter scale own designed Mini Cab for some time, and with some success on the northern competition circuit. David Vaughan was a well-known UK scale team member and the Comper Streak that was pub- lished in the June 1984 edition was an intriguing design from this master of the art of building and finishing a scale model. At this time I had become very interested in the scale competition scene having entered the Nationals and the excellent Woodvale International event in 1983.
