This fly-in is a memorial event for Joseph T. Nail (1942-1989) who died in an aircraft accident in 1989. From 1982 until his death, Joe was Master of Ceremonies of the Giant Scale Fly-In held at Hartness Field and after Joe's death Pat Hartness honoured his friend by renaming the event. The first Joe Nail Fly-In had only 17 pilots and at the latest there were more than 940 registered pilots. THE SITE The airfield has an almost 4 km runway, and the grass is kept perfect all week long. Pat Hartness has signed a treaty with the Academy of Model Aeronautics that upon his death the airfield will become the property of AMA, who will continue the tradition forever! There was a flight line with seven pilot stations and another consisting of five pilot stations exclusive to electric planes and a 3-D flight line sponsored by Extreme Flight RC next to a man- made lake. The lake provided a lot of fun for everyone. Three buses were constantly ferrying people from the main gate to 3-D flight line.
