DH-87B HORNET MOTH

Looking at a Hornet Moth today it's hard to believe that it was 78 years ago that the first flight for the type took place. It just doesn't look that old. 9th March 1934 was the day it happened, and it marked a time of transition for the de Havilland Company. That late winter's day when Captain Geoffrey de Havilland stepped into (not climbed into), the cabin (not the cockpit), of the Hornet Moth, then took off from the airfield at Stag Lane it marked the ending of the works there and the beginning of production at Hatfield.
