The time of year that brings the annual renewal of club and BMFA membership tends to be the one time I am in contact with all our club members. And, as usual, I was talking over the 2014 season with one of our not-so-young members. He had decided not to renew his membership as 2014 had been such a bad year that he had only been flying twice and his long time flying buddy was in much the same boat. Another reason for calling a halt to his modelling activities was that he had never upgraded to LiPo cells, nor brushless motors, nor 2.4 GHz radio and it was not really a change he wanted to make at this stage of his modelling career, even though doing so was probably a good idea.
