'Geomorphology, stratigraphy and facies analysis of some Late Pleistocene and Holocene key deposits along the coast of Sardinia (Italy),' and 'Geochronology for some key sites along the coast of Sardinia (Italy)': A note from the Editor-in-Chief

The following two papers discuss important Quaternary sections along the coast of Sardinia. Although the researchers involved worked together during phases of the investigation, and Prof. Mauro Coltorti is an author involved in both papers, the views presented in the papers differ substantially, particularly with regard to the chronology of the sedimentary deposits. The dating involving~(14)C determinations differs substantially from that resulting from OSL (IRSL) analyses, and in addition there are potential conflicts between some dates and interpretations and malacological data. The two papers can be read as comparative pieces, as much of the stratigraphic and sedimentolog-ical data is presented only in the first paper. This paper also includes discussion of a transgressive interglacial profile overlain by aeolian and associated fluvial sedimentation, indicating the coastal evolution and subsequent terrestrial development.
