摘要

We deeply appreciate the interest shown by S.K. Lahiri in our paper. The primary objective of our paper has been to demonstrate the application of Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) method for delineating shallow subsurface stratigraphy in an alluvial terrain such as the Ganga plains. It is well known that inverse problems are not unique but choosing the best initial model based on apt geological considerations can reduce the ambiguity. Throughout the work reported in this paper, the calibration has been done with the help of available borehole data. The refinement in the interpretation of resistivity data is certainly possible with the help of geophysical well log data but no geophysical well logs are available. Therefore, the lithological information derived from the core samples and available through cliff section was utilized.
