The first meeting of 2009 took place on rn15 January, when some 58 members rnand guests were in attendance to hear rna presentation by Brian Duthie rnand Jonathon Ash, of Key Geo Solutions rnLtd, on the subject of quarrying rngeotechnics.rnThe presentation opened with a brief outline of the various regulations and qualifications covering this subject.A 'geotechnical specialist' is a chartered engineer or geologist with three or more years' relevant experience in soil mechanics, rock mechanics or excavation engineering, and who is competent to perform a geotechnical analysis of a site to determine the hazards and risks arising from excavations or tips.
