Ben looked around at his new office, happy to still have a job but apprehensive about his new position. He had just been reassigned after his boss's boss, the CEO, decided that the continuous improvement1 (CI) initiative he had been leading was just not working out. A year ago, Ben was full of excitement, having convinced his supervisor that CI methods would be a great way to improve quality at ABC Co., and that he would be the right person to lead it. Ben had been part of CI at his former employer, and he knew that this stuff worked. Although his former employer was mostly a manufacturing operation and ABC was a technology service company, Ben recognized broken processes are the same all over. Besides, everyone wants to do things better, right?
