Weak pound proving the only hurdle in the way of lower British paper prices

The unrelenting weakness of the pound Sterling against the euro is currently preventing the prices of many paper and board grades from falling in the UK. While the pound has regained a little ground against the euro in recent weeks, British prices are frequently still among the lowest throughout Europe. However, this did not mean that prices escaped coming under pressure altogether: Buyers of LWC, folding boxboard, corrugated case material and, in some instances, woodfree paper have stepped up their calls for reduced prices. Many prices remained relatively stable in April, although further price cuts were reported for recycled corrugated case material and kraftliner in April. Robust demand from export markets and thus rising domestic prices surfaced on the British recovered paper market where prices generally became £10 more expensive than in March.
