Start-up of PM in Varkaus leaving its mark on Germany's brown kraftliner market

The first effects of Stora Enso's retrofitted paper machine at the company's Varkaus mill are emerging on the German unbleached kraftliner market. Trial deliveries are being ordered for customers to test this paper on their machines, industry insiders said. Therefore, the new capacities are not yet "really" available on the market, but will be in the foreseeable future. Producers are still moving ahead with attempts to charge more for fine paper in the first quarter of 2016. Non integrated paper manufacturers, in particular, are considered to have an urgent need to invoice more amidst spiralling costs. The first contracts containing higher prices are said to be set in stone, although the magnitude hinged on the previous price.
