Industry reports steady tissue paper deliveries in Germany in the second quarter

Producers of sanitary paper were largely satisfied with the business development on the German market in the second quarter. Tissue paper deliveries remained good, according to industry representatives. However, the earnings situation of tissue producers still leaves much to be desired. "The demand trend in the second quarter was completely normal - there were no ups and downs", one producer told EUWID. After a weaker start to the year, order activity continuously gained steam and overall the first-half deliveries were slightly better than in the year before, according to respondents. This was also illustrated by the June statistics from the German pulp and paper association Verband Deutscher Papierfabriken (VDP). According to VDP figures, deliveries of sanitary and household paper in the first six months of 2017 were up by 1.3% compared to the same period of the prior year at 782,000 t. Of the total shipments, 765,000 t (+1.9%) remained within Germany, while exports declined by 20.7% to 17,000 t. During the reporting period, German producers' total output was 752,0001, representing an increase of 1.2% compared to the previous year.
