Koehler with losses in the 2020 business year

Koehler Group's business performance in the 2020 financial year was affected by the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The group's sales fell by 12 per cent to €769m, with a drop in deliveries of 1.5 per cent. The operating result of €66m was significantly below the previous year's level and, according to Koehler, also well below target.Kai M. Furler, CEO of the Koehler Group, says: "2020 was not a good year for Koehler. Our export share is 70 per cent, which means we are massively affected by global changes. We have also felt this strongly in the Covid pandemic." Above all, the tense availability of raw materials on the world market and insufficient transport capacities posed a challenge for the company.Despite the adverse conditions, Koehler invested a total of €91 m last year. The main investments were in the new paper and coating machine in Kehl, in outdoor facilities and buildings, and in the Dollbergen biomass cogeneration plant. With the construction of the new paper machine PM 8 and the coating unit, Koehler entered the market for flexible packaging papers in 2020. The new PM is designed for a capacity of up to 120,000 tpy of paper, depending on the basis weight.
