Stora Enso invests €80m in wood handling at Imatra mills

Stora Enso has decided to upgrade the wood handling operations at its Imatra mills in Finland. Imatra consists of the two production units Kaukopaa and Tainionkoski and produces packaging boards for food, drink and luxury packaging.The production capacity currently amounts to 1,195,000 tpy of packaging board, 1,300,000 tonnes of pulp and 435,000 tonnes of polymer coating, according to Stora Enso. The €80m investment will not lead to an increase in paperboard production capacity, a Stora Enso spokesperson told EUWID.The investment is planned to start in the first quarter of 2021 and to be completed in the third quarter of 2022. The purpose of the investment is to modernise the wood handling process in Imatra and centralise it in one of the existing wood yards. The project includes the installation of a third debarking line, improvements to chip handling systems, and modifications to the existing wood yard infrastructure.
