German corrugated board industry with robust performance in troubled first half of 2020

Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic the member companies of the association of the German corrugated board manufacturing industry (VDW) registered a 1.1 per cent decline in their workday-adjusted sales volume in the second quarter of this year. In absolute figures, this corresponds to a decline of around 21.6 million m~2. On balance, the companies sold 1.91 billion m~2 in the period between April and June. However, in the first half of 2020 as a whole the workday-adjusted sales volume remained stable. In total, the VDW member companies sold just under 4 billion m~2 in the first six months of this year, i.e., 39.6 million m~2 more than in the first half of 2019. This corresponds to a slight increase of 0.2 per cent per workday, reports the association. The corrugated board industry has therefore proven to be robust during the economic turbulence caused by the coronavirus crisis.
