Fine paper producers voice optimism about near-term business development in Germany

It seems that the fine paper business is slowly emerging from its trough. After sometimes dramatic drops in demand as a result of the coronavirus containment measures, things are gradually starting to improve, especially in the offset segment, say respondents. Against the background of slightly improving order backlogs at paper mills, market participants are starting to turn theirattention to mid-year price discussions for woodfree coated and uncoated paper. However, there are not yet any clear statements about the possible delivery terms in the second half of the year and/or third quarter of 2020. On the kraftliner market, the phase of shortages and delayed deliveries has come to an end. Order backlogs have shrunk for both brown and white-top grades. There was no price movement in May, but growing calls for price reductions are expected.
