In addition to the challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian pulp and paper industry is currently facing a number of issues that have beset the sector for some time. As environmental consciousness grows in Russian society, production plants are being updated and the use of environmentally friendly packaging in Russia is growing gradually. Market participants are concerned about the stagnating domestic consumption of paper products. Moreover, there continue to be intense discussions about the economic framework for investments in Russia. The Russian paper industry association Bumprom discussed these issues in an interview published on its website. The Moscow-based paper industry association Bumprom says that major pulp and paper companies with a continuous production cycle are still operating during the coronavirus pandemic. Russian companies have adopted the internationally established safety measures, EUWID has learnt. According to Bumprom, the consequences of the current crisis for small and medium-sized companies cannot yet be evaluated.
