UPM starts negotiations on closure of Chapelle mill

UPM has informed employee representatives of its French Chapelle Darblay newsprint mill that it wants to start negotiations on the possible closure of the plant. These negotiations are expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2020 and will be conducted in accordance with French legislation. However, the sales process will continue during employee negotiations, UPM announced and underlined its intention to sell, rather than close, the mill if a credible offer is submitted. The plant currently employs 236 people and can produce 240,000 tpy of newsprint.
