Smurfit Kappa revamps PM 5 at Cellulose du Pin

Irish Smurfit Kappa group began rebuilding PM 5 as announced at its French Cellulose du Pin mill and plans to complete the task by the end of February. A company spokesman confirmed that PM 5 is scheduled to resume operation at the beginning of March and would be able to produce up to 45,000 tpy more than before. PM 5 produces white kraftliner and machine capacity will amount to around 220,000 tpy after the rebuild.The rebuild mainly involves renewing components of the dryer section with the aim of improving paper quality besides increasing productivity and saving energy. Maintenance works were executed on PM 6 at the mill, which produces brown kraftliner, from 12 to 27 January, as well as in the mill's pulp production area. At the Swedish Pitea mill, where Smurfit Kappa produces brown and white kraftliner, a leak in the recovery boiler forced a production stop from 9 to 15 January. A company spokesman explained that the fault had been repaired and that the mill has since resumed normal operation. Smurfit Kappa runs two machines at the PiteS mill, which have a combined capacity of roughly 700,000 tpy.
