Carton makers cannot meet REACH reporting requirement

The proposal submitted by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) early this year to restrict mi-croplastics also affects carton makers as industrial downstream users besides producers of printing inks and paints. The draft REACH regulation (REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) proposed by ECHA includes comprehensive annual reporting requirements also for folding box producers. However, according to the FFI, the umbrella association of German folding box producers, key data targeted by the regulation e.g. identity and volume of microplas-tics in printing inks and paints are not available to these producers in the first place.
