Partnerships Vital to Project's Success

The Boston metropolitan area is home to more than 5.6 million people, at least 600,000 of whom commute into downtown each day. Thousands of businesses generate billions of dollars worth of goods and services annually. The city welcomes roughly 10 million visitors each year who come to work, play, attend school, or spend time with family. Millions more pass through on their way north deeper into New England or south to Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York. While planning, managing, and executing the Central Artery/ Tunnel Project, better known as the "Big Dig," the project team never stopped thinking about the people who live in, work in, and visit the city of Boston. The goal from the very beginning was to minimize the impact of our work on the metropolitan area.
