Software may guide return of American Chestnut

A software tool developed by the University of Cincinnati could help effectively reintroduce the American Chestnut tree after billions died due to blight. Using NEWGARDEN's comparative computer modeling, researchers plan to provide improved guidelines for the spacing and geometric patterning of founding trees in restoration plantings, leading to a more successful return of this threatened native tree to North America's Eastern forests.
