As community leaders begin the process of building a new comm center, two issues tend to be on their minds: security and efficiency. Although security is probably the single most critical consideration in comm center design, the need for an effective work environment that seamlessly accommodates the functions and activities within, while making the most efficient use of available funds and resources, is also critical.rnUnfortunately, the desire to provide a highly secure facility often results in bunker-like structures that are poorly lit and have no connection to the outside environment. This can create a work environment in which productivity and morale are diminished, and public perception of the facility is less than optimal. Several strategies can be employed to improve the work environment while ensuring safety and security standards remain high.
