Appropriately enough for the soi-disant 'Olympics of Telecommunications', the quadrennial Telecom exhibitions in Geneva are a test of strength, speed and endurance for those who attend. Now, as in the case of the Olympics of yesteryear, there is much talk about boycotts by one telecomms 'team' or another. This is nothing too new. For more years than those of us who sadly measure out our lives in terms of these trips to Geneva would care to remember, exhibitors have grumbled about the cost and logistics of mounting their displays. In the end, however, they have tended to fall into line―lemming-like―often returning with more costly and grandiose pavilions than in previous years. Kublai Khan would have been proud of them.
