The Line of Beauty

"Beauty is In the eye of the beholder," George Bernard Shaw once said, and how true It Is. What is beautiful to one may not be to others, hence parameters of beauty cannot be defined. However, certain things simply look more attractive than Others. Making a good exhibition print the darkroom with one's own hands is time-consuming, but at the same time a delight and gives immense pleasure and satisfaction to those who know how to make such prints and know their value. Similarly, "after work" on prints is equally important and requires good photographic knowledge, aesthetic sense, patience and time. Today, many prints are entered in salons, but in my opinion, the overall standard is low and it sometimes becomes difficult to accept 20% out of the lot according to PSA recommendations. However, as a salon judge for 40 years, I strongly feel many prints could have been improved and accepted if a little care was taken by the authors during printing and if some work is done to them later, like local reduction, picking up highlights, careful finishing and a little "make-up."
