The biggest public exposition of photographic materials in the US is the PMA show, which like the larger Photokina in Germany, has representatives of all the major and minor manufacturers and distributors. At this year's show, many of the items whispered about at the 2000 Photokina were shown in marketable form.As an example, Nikon showed two variations of their Dl Digital SLR (which will be discontinued - and discounted, I would guess). The D1X, optimized for high image sharpness, and the D1H, optimized for action photogra- phy and fast working. (Illustration 1) The D1X has 5.47 megapixel (Mp) resolution, while the D1H, capable of faster shutter speeds and fast opera- tion (5 frames per second - fps - for up to 40 consecutive shots) has maximum resolution of 2.74 Mp.
