East London's Olympic Park is set to become home to a giant digital campus, after iCity this week emerged as frontrunner to buy its 1m sq ft International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre following the games. The concept, anchored by a 300,000 sq ft data centre, outpaced the rival UK Fashion Hub proposal, and is likely to be recommended for approval by the London Legacy Development Corporation's (LLDC) main board as . early as next week. ICity's plan is backed by data centre provider Infinity, which already has four outer London data centres and is backed by the Rothschild Investment Trust, and an unnamed property partner. It is thought to have chimed with the government's technology-led growth plan for the area between Old Street and the Olympic Park.
