UK should follow Japan's example and embrace multi-storey sheds

The multi-storey shed concept has been floating around in the UK for some time, but to date 'shedscrapers' haven't gained any traction on these shores despite the fact that suitable land for new industrial development is becoming increasingly scarce. Maybe the property industry should take a leaf out of Japan's book. Because of the scarcity of land, sheds in Japan are all typically two storeys or more high - the highest is a whopping 10 storeys, Prologis has just started spec construction of a six-storey 2m sq ft shed called Park Ibaraki, in Osaka, which it is due to complete in September 2016. Given the projected growth of more urban logistics facilities to enable the rise of online shopping, the developer believes it is only a matter of time before similar projects are undertaken in the UK.
