Brexit to hit northern and Midlands cities hardest in 2017

The cities in the 'northern powerhouse' and 'Midlands engine' are set to be hit disproportionately hard this year by the economic fallout from the EU referendum result, a major new piece of research reveals. No northern cities feature in a list of the 10 UK cities expected to see the fastest economic growth this year. Last year, by contrast, Manchester, Greater Manchester and Newcastle were in the top 10 fastest-growing cities identified in the UK Powerhouse report, which was produced by the Centre for Economic and Business Research (Cebr) for law firm Irwin Mitchell.
