Registered providers are playing a greater role in the private-rent and for-sale markets to bring in more income, after their funding was cut back by the coalition government.In November L&Q won a bidding process to buy the whitechapel Safestore site in east London for £41.1m. It plans to turn the block into residential.The company owns and manages more than 70,000 homes in London and the south-east. It has an ongoing relationship with Barratt Developments, through which it develops private-rent and for-sale schemes. Development director Jerome Geoghegan tells Rhiannon Bury why non-affordable housing is becoming more important.
