Law firm lights up Liverpool office gloom

After a dire second quarter in which only 16,600 sq ft of offices were taken up, the scene brightened in the third quarter with the 94,000 sq ft letting to Weightmans at Bruntwood's the Plaza on Old Hall Street. The law firm signed a 15-year lease at the £15.50/sq ft quoting rent. Agents now estimate the year might not end so badly after all. DTZ's tally for the first three quarters is 180,000 sq ft or 250,000 sq ft, if the 70,000 sq ft Royal Mail depot bought by Liverpool John Moores University in August is included (see left). There are a further 100,000 sq ft of requirements, which, if fulfilled, would push 2011 take-up in the city centre past the 2010 total of 207,515 sq ft, says Chris Lloyd, associate director of DTZ.
