Adam Lawrence didn't always want to build houses. Indeed, the founder and chief executive of London Square, ex-head of Barratt's south-east division and self-confessed "average Joe", says as a teenager his ambitions lay somewhere else completely - albeit briefly and unadvisedly. "I wanted to get into catering as a chef and signed up to catering college," he says. "When my dad found out. he told me I was a complete idiot. He said there was no money in catering and that I'd be working while all my friends were out having a good time. He was absolutely right."
