摘要

There is no doubt that the development and implementation of expansion foam systems for fire protection has helped save lives and lessened the devastation of fire disasters. While they have proven to be an effective means of suppressing fires, foam systems have their own risks associated with their use and potentially life-threatening consequences can result from worker interaction with the foam itself. The King Hangar incident provides many lessons for safety professionals who are exploring the need for a foam system, or for those who have taken on a role in an organization that already uses foam methods. The current standards and regulations skim the surface and mainly focus on the design requirements and implementation of a foam system. It is important for the safety community to explore their own unique needs, train and inform workers, and minimize the potential for future incidents. It is quite possible that the most dangerous aspect of an expansion foam fire protection system is the distracting element of their effectiveness to fight fires.
