With new changes to NFPA 69 already taking effect and with the coming requirement in 2021 for all explosion prevention systems to be SIL-2 rated, the NFPA Technical Committee for Explosion Protection seems to be focused on ensuring proper design of the protection systems being implemented. As fires and explosions continue to play an outsized role on the process safety outcomes in the process industries, this increased focus on design stage and engineering the correct solutions with highly reliable protection schemes will drive down the number of incidents resulting in property loss, injury and death.
