NFPA Committee Initiates Emergency Amendment to Fuel Gas Code

Nfpa National Fuel Gas Code Committee has moved to strengthen safety requirements for gas purging in NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code. The action follows urgent recommendations by CSB in the wake of an explosion at the ConAgra Slim Jim plant in Garner, NC, last June. CSB acknowledged the hazards involved in this common industry practice and recommended that indoor gas purging at industrial, commercial and public facilities be restricted.
