OSHA Resource Aids Emergency Responders to Combustible Dust Fires

Since 1980, more than 130 workers have died and more than 780 have been injured in combustible dust explosions. Emergency responders continue to face injury and sometimes death during operations in facilities with combustible dusts, in part due to inadequate information or training on the explosive characteristics of combustible dust and/or facility conditions. To address the issue, OSHA has released "Firefighting Precautions at Facilities With Combustible Dust" , an informational booklet that outlines safe techniques for emergency responders who may face fires and explosions caused by combustible dust.
