Business owners generally understand the importance of implementing a fire protection system to keep their workers and customers safe. Yet, once such a system is installed, failure to perform routine inspections and maintenance can prove as dangerous as the absence of a system. All fire protection systems have regular inspection schedules that vary in frequency from weekly to annually, and NFPA codes must be followed for all fire prevention equipment, including sprinklers, data centers and fire extinguishers. However, 80% of sprinkler failures are caused by lack of maintenance, either because routine inspections were not performed, or because repairs were not made when a deficiency was found.
