Improved Refining Performance and Lower Operating Cost through New Technology

The DD~® product line has evolved through six series of refiners since 1953. The development focus of the DD 2000, DD 3000, DD 3500, DD 4000, MD~®4000 and DD 4500 refiners was to continually improve refining performance and lower operating cost. The DD 3500 and DD 4500 are the latest series of refiners, incorporating key features of the DD 5000 series refiner. The DD 5000 refiner was designed, but never made it to production due to the bankruptcy of its manufacturer, Beloit Corporation. Spline rotor and hub technology, variable speed adjustment and rotor removal arm technology developed for the DD 5000 refiner were adapted to the DD 3000 and DD 4000 refiners in order to develop the DD 3500 and DD 4500 series. Refiner operating cost has been reduced by up to 30% from improved plate life, lower power consumption, improved strength development lower seal water consumption, lower maintenance cost fewer sheet breaks, and quicker plate changes. The features found on the DD 3500 and DD 4500 refiners, which help reduce operating cost and improve performance, can be applied on existing DD 4000 and DD 3000 refiners during field installation or during an OEM rebuild.
