The ship's log entry read April 14, 1982, when the con-tainership Atlantic Conveyor departed Dundalk Marine Terminal in Baltimore for Liverpool, England. The 14,950-ton vessel would never see the port again. Along with its sister ship, Atlantic Causeway, Atlantic Conveyor was requisitioned on that day by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense at the beginning of the Falklands War. A British task force was battling Argentina for repossession of the Falkland Islands. Cargo vessels were needed to transport equipment and stores to the southern coast of Argentina.
