Iain Hollingshead's article, "Hardwired to manage", will doubtless have caused many employees concern at the concept of a future where how we use our paid time can be scrutinised to the point that time spent in the lavatory is monitored. But it also raises the question, "Why not?" There are many reasons for not working in paid time, but that does not mean employers should not check that this is the case. While some professions may be more used to accounting for their time, I only recently started to record how I was spending mine. Two truths came out of the exercise.
