What makes people happy? Managers across the UK spend hours, days and months each year trying to boost staffsatisfaction - and, in turn, increase business and productivity. But, while they put their efforts into highfalutin company goals and mission statements, they might be missing what really makes a difference. The mundane nuts and bolts of the office are just as much linked to wellbeing at work as the intricacies of organisational strategy. A 2012 survey, commissioned by TV chef and food manufacturer Ainsley Harriott, found that the top office gripe was noisy eaters, with more than half (57%) of the 2,500 office employees surveyed stating this as the most annoying habit among co-workers. The infernal crunchers eclipsed messy colleagues (32%) and those that don't wash up after themselves (27%) in the hall of shame.
