There's a received wisdom that our massive multi-connectedness, our constant on-ness, can sometimes leave us a bit on edge. That's likely to be true to an extent. Witness the recent trade-union agreement in France (naturellement!), which tells employees to ignore emails from their bosses if it's past 6pm. Rules like that have been written because we're increasingly at the beck and call of the entire planet. If we're not getting emails reminding us about what's going to be discussed at the 8.15am meeting, 10 hours hence, then it's our phones or laptops hinging with Facebook messages, WhatsApp alerts or push notifications from the Pointless app reminding us that it's our turn. Though that last one might just be me.
