The May general election has seen parties laying out their employment policies, with Labour concentrating on getting young unemployed back to work, with an element of compulsion. Labour said it would guarantee a paid job to every 18-24-year-old who had been claiming Jobseeker's Allowance for more than a year and for every 25-year-old and older who had been claiming it for more than two years. Labour said those who refused to take the jobs would lose their benefits. It said the jobs would be funded by a tax on bank bonuses and by restricting tax relief on pensions for the wealthiest.
